赤壁 II

just caught red cliff II, finally.

now i understand why xm came up with a mini list of reasons why this show should not be screened. haha, i totally agree with him on the suicide warriors (bombers).

nevertheless, details aside, it's a really good show to catch even though i know nuts about the original storyline. =) i was kinda sad when general gan xing died though, i thought he was rather cute in the show. haha.

Hong Kong!

finally got the collages up, super lazy bout it. haha.

day 1: 3rd Jan 2009, sat.

we were at the airport super early even though our flight was at 9am as we had to do a group check-in and truth be told, the tour guide was kinda screwed up as well. brought my parents along for this trip!

dim sum attack @ yung kee, central!

and we were at harbour city, tsim sha tsui area in the evening for sightseeing and the symphony of lights display. super windy and cold while admiring the display of lights, we walked past avenue of stars in a jiffy though as it was too crowded to take photos and all.

dinner was at mongkok and of course, we walked around ladies street and all. the whole street looks like a big pasar malam to me and, there was nothing much to buy. in fact, i did very little shopping this trip. supper was at 许留山, but as i was having very bad digestion and gastric issues, my mum barred me from all cold food. sulks.

day 2: 4th Jan 2009, sun.

sightseeing day @ lantau island!

the roomie, joe and i woke up super early at 630 to have breakfast so that we can meet my folks @ hong kong mtr to tung chong. the air at lantau island was pretty refreshing and we went to the great buddha, po lin monastery, and a walk of wisdom. see pictures!!!

we didnt really shop much at the factory outlets @ tung chong cos we were pretty hungry and there was nothing much to eat at the shopping mall. we did focused shopping at the few shops we wanted to go and proceed back to town for some 大家乐!

the roomie and i proceeded to causeway bay to meet ernest while my parents went to check out their macau ferry tickets for the next day. it was good seeing him again, the last time we met was almost a yr ago during CNY at his place. haha, he's still as funny! and we went to eat again, at 沙嗲王! it's similar to the hong kong cafe in singapore but stuff in hk is a lil saltier and tastier yah.

company dinner was back at tst and due to the timing, we missed a visit to the peak with my folks. thus, we met them at their hotel instead, think they were pretty tired cos they walked the whole day as well. we had a bit of roast goose and honestly, i cant differentiate the taste between the goose and duck. so...

the roomie and i went to temple street after we left my parent's place. lots of good food around but we just cant eat anymore. we had 龟灵膏 at 海天堂 though, the 龟灵膏 is much better than that of 许留山 la. and we found free internet access inside the mtr stations.

back to central and lwan gui fang at night. haha.

day 3: 5th Jan 2009, mon.

home sweet home.
my parents extended their stay and went to macau the day instead.

day 3 was dim sum attack again at another restaurant which ernest recommended. honestly, the standard of dim sum in hk, you can not find in singapore at the same price.
then it was last min shopping for 恒香老婆饼s and 奇华凤梨 foodies. the aunites were very happy with us cos we pretty much cleared all their 老婆饼 on the shelves.

i really did very little shopping this trip, if not for the guccis heels i bought when my parents went to macau. haha. and i've got an espirit denim skirt and addidas jacket at a steal. and lots of pineapple tarts and some 老婆饼 s no bags cos i wont use them anyway, clothing is limited cos the shops are selling mostly winter stuff.

the nxt time we go hong kong again, we are going to try all the 大排挡s and the porridge which chang claimed that will make us tear. haha. and we missed the peak this time round as there was a company dinner, shrugs. we missed wong tai sin. disneyland wasnt on our itinery. i want to go to ocean park too. a pretty rush trip i must say, couldnt extend as i was going to osaka the following night.

nevertheless, i will return to hong kong again! =)

Osaka & Kyoto 2009

been dreading to post it cos there's a lot of pictures.

quote from yunn "kua kua kua...". i like this phrase, funny. haha.

Q: shouldnt the hong kong pics be up first?
A: i havent gotten the pics yet and i dont want to download from picasa online. waiting for the roomie to pass me.. haha

hong kong for a start.

haha, thought this looks kinda funny.

here goes, red sky in the morning when we arrived at osaka.

Day 1: 7th Jan 2009, wed.

see the charm in the middle row, it's a typical practice the japanese do to ward off evils and such. and true enough, there's lots of vending machines in japan, and they are EVERYWHERE. anyway, as we didnt arrive at osaka airport but nagoya, we have to travel another 3 hours up osaka by coach. blame it on the huge number of qualifiers that prud didnt manage to get enough flights and room accomodation was a hassle. haha, but we were compensated for staying at ANA crowne instead of swissotel la, with a box of super sweet mochi and 1000 yen worth of the mrt card.

as soon as we arrived at the hotel, it was shopping time! the confectioneries were awesome, similar to singapore's takashimaya but definitely, sg taka is no fight. woohoo, i heart carbos!

dinner was at swissotel with the rest of the qualifiers, food was alright but the sashimi is yummilicious. i bet the roomie loves it here, wish he was there too. =)

as our hotel is located just beside the red-light district in osaka, we decided to walk around after the dinner. pretty amazing as you see the difference between the ladies and us, we were fully wrapped as it was freaking cold while they were wearing evening gowns. in fact, the woman dont do the prospecting, the males do. so, they ignore us totally when we were walking thru the streets. in the end, we settled for some sake and all at a nice cozy eating house and playing silly games thru the night. =)

Day 2: 8th Jan 2009, thurs.

it was a day tour at kyoto where we visited 3 different temples; 3 temples which we have to see when we are there. no real impression of the 1st temple other then remembering that there's a lot of statues and all of them look the same, haha. cos we were busy taking photos around the temple la. and lunch was at this fanciful restaurant with a nice garden. the highlight of the lunch was to make our own tofu. but since i wasnt a big fan of tofu, no photos no photos. the sashimi was very good.

one interesting practice we were made to do is to take off our shoes and locked them up in the locker provided. interesting but troublesome cos most of us were in boots. haha.

we went on to the next location, a golden pavillion temple where the phoenix, 2nd and 3rd story are made of gold. dont ask me the details, i wasnt really listening, hee.

the last destination is my favourite, the kiyomizu temple. we went to get a lot and we get our guide to translate for us instead. hee. after which, we are supposed to tie our lot onto the pillars. the scenary was breathtaking. and we got all the souveniers and foodie stuff down the street between the temple and the holding area for our coaches. lots of stuff to buy and shop and we even tried some of the local food along the way.

we spent night time at shinsaibashi, one of the biggest shopping district and we had some very authetic and tasty japanese ramen, recommended by the sales guy at agnes b. we didnt know how to use the vending machines to get our food and we have created such a queue that the chefs had to come out to give us a hand. haha. the shop was really traditional where u see people hanging their coats on the hangers behind them.

and know what, the japanese can really eat and yet, they're still very lean and slim. so are the hongkies. is it true that all the fat people are too ashamed to go out or is it just the genes and weather and everything? sulks!

day 3: 9th Jan 2009, fri.

free & easy at osaka!

early in the morning, we went to catch a glimpse of the osaka castle. =) as the itinery for the day is tight, we didnt explore the inside. we merely took some pics and went off to meet the rest at the aquarium.

i was fairly disappointed at the aquarium as i didnt see my dolphins show. but there wasnt a dolphin show to begin with, i thought and expected there will be la. (i guess i watch too much waterboys) haha. nothing fantastic about the aquarium, looked almost like underwater world to me. but i guess, it's places of interest that we must go. =)

and we took a ride up the ferris wheel. it was pretty scary, and i was honestly scared comparing to the cable car ride to lantau island in hong kong.

we gave universal studio a miss since there wasnt enough time. shopping hours are pretty short in osaka due to winter, so the shopping malls generally closed at 830pm. so we have to be very focused, just blue label, black label, agnes b, longchamp. the rest of the brands are super ex, so no point looking at them. no shopping for clothes cos it's all winter wear which none fits wearing in singapore. unfortunately, the group of us werent very into cosmetics and skincare, erhm and not really food. so, it was a really see-see-look-look trip.

food there was amazingly pretty and nicely wrapped.

we walked around the shinsaibashi area again on our last night in osaka. perhaps it was friday night, there were a lot more people around. the streets were brightly lit and there were fanciful signboards everywhere, similar to hong kong. thinking back, singapore is pretty boring even though we have a lot of lightings too because you realized there's only 1 colour here? that will be orange. oh, boring.

somehow, the night ended with only phoebe and myself. so we decided to find the most traditonal eating house we see and went in. the disaster came when there was no pics on the menu and both the waitress and us couldnt understand each other. luckily for us, there was a china chinese working in the kitchen, so he came out to take our orders instead. speaking in mandarin is so much easier! and asahi is very good, i heart asahi! =)

night time was spent packing our luggage as we had to leave pretty early for the airport.

day 4: 10th Jan 2009, sat.

goodbye osaka!
it's a city whereby it's enough to be there once, no reason to go back again and again. =)

after looking at jomei's extension to tokyo, i will say the nxt destination i will love to visit is defintely tokyo and disneyland and mt fuji! =)

we have registered.

have u?

30th May 2009.
venue: changi point.

A guy i met today.

is a potential client. but what's more interesting about him is his attitude towards life.

a bit of background info, he's a pretty decent and pleasant looking guy in his early thirties even though he looks a few years younger than his age. he graduated overseas (not australia) with a good degree and is holding a stable career and most prob, a mid-high income earner. he's single and not gay, owns a car, has some investments and exercises regularly. his main language for communcation is english.

usual expectations: seen the world, knows everything in life, parties quite a bit, has a few cards in wallet, ta-da-ta-da, you get the drift?

but he's an outlier, not in a bad way but in fact, i applaud him for who he is.

the real him prefers to use cash and he has only got nets. it's not like he cant apply for cards, just that it doesnt bother him. (alright, the roommie too cos he doesnt see the need for credit cards) and he doesnt care if he pays more for a laptop or desktop as long as he gets what he want (even if it means he will be kana tok) he doesnt know what he wants or what he has to look out for when he buys a gadget, he will buy as long as his friend says it's good and he will pay. in my opinion, he has no budget for anything as long as it's within his means and he needs it. and he knows nuts about financial planning, he buys policies because his relatives/friends recommended him. he's dead sure insurance is not for him and he doesnt bother to even think why this is so. basically, he's simply not the type who knows the difference between ram memory and harddisk space, he's not the type to know which card has more privilleges, he's not the type to find the best bargains, he's not the type who cares if the whole world collapses as long the people dearest to him and himself are not in it.

he simply doesnt care about the less important things around him. alright, why will anyone care about the less important things you may ask? however, his definition of less important things is not the same as us, mind u. his definition of important things will then perhaps be things that occur to him, eg family, money, that's all i guess.

while most of us are trying to be somebody we want to be or we can never be, he is just being himself and leading a life he's happy and comfy in.

isnt this the happiest way we can live our life?

tired

from all the travelling.

im back to work!
in fact, i was already in office yesterday. i dare say i've never been more hardworking man.
hello all, this is year 2009!

new start, fresh beginnings!

to begin with, both the hong kong and japan trips are pretty cool as they are free.
didnt really burn a big hole in my pocket but i must admit that there were some damages done, nothing too dramatic i swear.

hong kong is quite a bustling and colourful city with all the neon lights and late night stalls. damage done was minimal if not for the pair of gucci heels that i bought on the last day. the roommie and i spent less than S$350 each for the trip and in the end, we decided to spend every cents of hkd on the famous kee hwa pineapple tarts.

osaka is pretty similar to hong kong, less the crowds on a normal night. and of course, much colder. spent around 1500 bucks for the 4d3n stay. the fact is, there's nothing much to buy there. however, the stuffs sold are pretty expensive, be it food, beverages or souveniers. so there goes my 1500, ka-chiang!

blue lable was not as afforadable as before, black label is still alright. the only cheaper brands in nippon (comparing the prices to singapore), are longchamp and agnes b. the rest of the stuff are super ex.

looking forward to the next trip!

i'm back!

will update soon, cheerios! =)

Saturday, January 3, 2009

5 more hours...

i'll be awake and making my way to the airport.

the flight to hong kong is 0910 but somehow we got to report at 0630, guess that's the trouble with travelling in a big group. but well, it's almost a free trip, so i supposed it justifies all. =)

hong kong here i come!
